Hey! Thanks for stopping by Dockstader Studios! My name is Ryan, and I’m the owner of this here photography website. I’m a husband to a wonderful gal named Jessica, and a father to my two boys, Rhett (turns 3 in October) and Wesley (turns 3 months in October).
A Little About Me
I love the color purple and mohawks. Also, my wife Jess is a cosmetologist. I think you can fill in the rest as to how the above picture happened…
Anyways, If you’re looking for a little more information on Dockstader Studios in general, definitely check out the About Us page. This is going to be a lot more in depth about who I am personally. I grew up here in Cache Valley, and I love this beautiful place! There are so many wonderful people that live here in Cache Valley and so many beautiful locations close by.
Family = Life
Like I said, I grew up here. I’m the youngest out of 5 siblings. I have 3 older brothers and 1 older sister. While we all have our differences, I think that’s what makes us such a loving family. I’ve seen that throughout my life. If you know my family, chances are you’ve heard that my brother, Devin, had cancer (twice) while he was pretty young. Something that I will always remember is that when it came down to a bone marrow transplant, all the members of my family jumped at the chance to help Devin get better. While there was a couple of us that matched pretty well in our family it came down to me to be the donor.
While I’m not going into the nitty gritty details of all that, it was during that experience that I really came to understand the things that were more important in life, and how important our relationship with God is. Devin has been cancer free since the transplant and our family is grateful that we still have that punk around. 🙂 Love you, Devin.
Rick and Maxine (those are the people I call Mom and Dad) are such a wonderful example of staying together through the good and the bad times. My Dad was able to retire this last year, but before that he and my Mom spent a lot of time apart due to his work situation. After 30+ years of working at the same company, he accepted a promotion to be VP of manufacturing for the company he worked for.
This meant that he had to move to Wisconsin where the company headquarters are. Shortly after that, he had to move to Virginia to help out with a branch of the company there. All the while they kept their house in Preston because that is where they both believe the home to be. Because of this, my mom had to split her time between Idaho and where ever my Dad happened to be. Watching them stick it out through that taught me so much about relationships. I’m still picking up lessons from it to this day.
Meeting My Wife
Annnndddd that brings me to my little family. Jess is one of the primary people that pushes me to be the best that I can be, and to do things like try to start Dockstader Studios. I met her nearly five years ago now. Man, time really does fly! We met at church. She was visiting her cousin who just so happened to be in my ward. After two years of wearing conventional church shoes on my mission, I wanted to branch out a little and often wore cowboy boots to church. It was one of those weird singles wards that have sacrament meeting at the end. Anyways, during Sunday school she happened to be sitting behind me.
After it ended, she leaned forward and said: “Hey, I like your cowboy boots!”. Since I was pretty pumped about my choice of footwear, I pretty excitedly said “Thanks! I just got them.” (Which I did, earlier that week). We chatted for about 30 seconds and that was about it. But then somehow in the awkward shuffle from Sunday school to the chapel, we got positioned next to each other. So we awkwardly talked a little more. Then, as we approached the chapel she turned around to me and said: “where should we sit?”. I was a little confused, but I said “usually I sit over there.” pointing towards the back of the chapel. So she sat by me.
I later found out that she thought her cousin was behind her and was too embarrassed to say that when she turned around and it was me instead. Gosh, I sure do love that girl. Fairly shortly after that, we got married, bought a car together, bought a house together, had two kids together and here we are. All caught up!
Now that you know more about me, let’s talk Dockstader Studios. This is a pretty new adventure for me at this point. But, I love photography. Being able to capture the moments around me is something I love to do. I don’t care if it’s people, a beautiful flower, or a breathtaking sunset. There is so much beauty I see here in Cache Valley and any other place that I go with the world and I want to share that. I feel the best way to do that is through photos.
Thus, this website and the Dockstader Studios brand. I hope someday to expand and bring my brother and sister on board (both are currently photographers. Really good ones, too!) but for now it’s just me. A lot of this is going to be a learning experience. I’m excited to share my journey through photos and blogs. I really hope you enjoy it and decide to follow along with me. I’d love to have ya!
That’s gonna do it for this one! thanks for sticking around if you made it this far. Be sure to browse around the site. It’s still pretty new so some of the stuff might not be in working order quite yet, but I’ve got some big dreams and a little bit of time. We’ll see what I’m able to come up with. See you next time!
